Our Mission

To provide a safe environment for youth to engage with each other and caring adults while promoting youth wrestling in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Christian County and surrounding areas. Additionally, to instill a spirit of discipline, sportsmanship, competitiveness, and personal responsibility in local youth.

Our Vision

To have a premier youth wrestling program capable of competing at the highest levels and providing club members opportunities for advancement within the sport of wrestling, to have a dedicated space for consistent wrestling practices, to host annual wrestling tournaments and provide annual wrestling camps.

Our Story

Image

In the Fall of 2023 Michael McAllister and his son, Bobby Dean, pulled an old box from a bedroom closet.
The box contained a couple of trophies, an old pair of wrestling shoes, and some headgear.

“What’s that?” Bobby Dean asked his dad.

“That’s my old wrestling stuff.” Michael replied.

“Can I wrestle too?” Asked Bobby Dean.

“Yes, of course, I would love for you to wrestle.”

“Dad, will you teach me to wrestle?”

“Absolutely Bub.”

This interaction between father and son sparked the journey that led to the founding of MC Wrestling INC. Michael’s passion for the sport of wrestling reignited. The search was on for a local club where Bobby Dean could learn the sport that gave his father so much joy and shaped the man he would become. Unfortunately, no such club existed in Christian County, Kentucky.

Despite having successful wrestling programs at Christian County High School and Hopkinsville High School, opportunities for youth to get involved in the sport are extremely limited. The limitations are even greater for homeschooled, private schooled, and virtual learning students, who won’t have the opportunity to participate in the high school programs. Michael could coach Bobby Dean on his own, and travel to open competitions, but that would continue to leave the rest of Christian County youth with few options to participate in wrestling. Michael and his wife, Chelsey, decided there was only one thing they could do, begin a wrestling club open to all the youth of our local community.

This community-centered attitude led Michael and Chelsey to found MC Wrestling INC as non-profit organization and obtain 501(c)3 tax exempt status. They gathered a dedicated group of individuals from the local community, passionate about the mission, to serve as volunteer board members and oversee the club activity. They began building relationships with wrestling coaches and programs in the surrounding areas, while organizing fundraisers in order to get our club off the ground. There is still a great deal to accomplish before the club enters into their first season in the Fall of 2024, but Michael, Chelsey, and everyone involved is committed to completing the necessary work.

And Bobby Dean is “too excited” to finally wrestle with his dad.

FAQ

Q: What age can my youth start wrestling?
A: The MC Wrestling club offers practices and competition to youth as young as 4 years old.

Q: Do you allow highschoolers to join?
A: Absolutely. Our club is open to youth as young as 4 years old and up to 18 years old. We also encourage any adults wanting to explore the sport of wrestling to come check us out. All of our wrestlers will be offered opportunities to compete and supported by our coaches.

Q: Can girls wrestle?
A: 100% In fact, women in wrestling has grown dramatically in the past decade. We are proud to have female youth wrestlers on our team and are always looking for more to join! Your female wrestler will fit right in.

Q: How often do the youth practice?
A: On average we offer 2-3 practices a week throughout the year. The "off" season of wrestling is during the summer months of June, July, August and September. During those months you may see a decrease of practice times to 1-2 times a week. However, during the summer is when we also offer summer camp and clinic opportunities. During the month of August we have no practices or tournaments. During this time we encourage our youth to practice at home, cross-train with other sports and of course to spend quality time with family and friends.

Q: How much does memberships cost?
A: We have set up four different membership packages that break down the different competitive seasons within the year. You can find this break down at the top of our website page or on our FB page: MC Wrestling. We highly recommend the Annual Membership package that offers all practices throughout the year for a low one time payment of $150.

Q: Can parents sit in on practices?
A: At this time, absolutely. We ask all parents to please refrain from video taping or taking pictures during practice as to help the youth stay focused on their training. Parents are not allowed to be on the wrestling mates at any time.

Q: How can I volunteer?
A: MC Wrestling INC is not possible without volunteers! We have a booster club that helps with fundraisers throughout the year with our biggest event being the Annual Leprechaun Classic tournament hosted in March of every year. We are also looking for volunteers to coach wrestling. Even if you have no prior experience, if you are interested in learning and support our youth, you can volunteer. Please contact Chelsey McAllister (910) 584-6969 to get started or for more information.

Q: How many tournaments does the MC Wrestling attend?
A: Tournament opportunities are offered all throughout the year. The coaching staff have invested in filtering the best tournaments for our youth to attend, to include competitions for experienced wrestlers and beginners. There are tournaments that take place annually such as State and Regional competitions, while most of the other tournaments are put on the schedule as the information is released by that school or club. The best way to keep up with tournaments is through the wrestling IQ app, hearing from coaches during practice and by following our FB page: MC Wrestling.

Q: How do we pay for tournaments?
A: Most tournaments utilize trackwrestling.com or usawrestling.com for registration. Parents will be able to register their youth for tournaments through the registration portal the tournament directors choose. There is a cost to attend each tournament. Cost per tournament varies. Other tournaments such as ones held at local schools or beginner tournaments most likely will offer cash or other forms of payment. The best way to keep up with the details of tournament information is to follow the MC Wrestling FB page, ask any coaching staff, or contact the MC President, Chelsey McAllister. Payments for tournaments are requested as soon-as-possible to ensure each wrestler is registered within the allotted timeframe.

Q: Do you offer private lessons?
A: yes, if you are interested in a private session with our Head Coach, Michael McAllister please reach out at (530) 701-2877. Private lessons are not available during the month of August. The most availability for private lessons are in the months of June, July and September.

Q: Can my youth come for a "drop-in"
A: Absolutely. We love to see other wrestlers whether from other clubs, schools or wanting to try out wrestling attend our practices. You will be able to sign up for a drop-in practice on the wrestling IQ calendar. You may also reach out to the Head Coach, Michael McAllister. Every year in September we offer "open-mat" practices where anyone can come to practice to try wrestling and/or to see what all our club is about. We announce these events on our website calendar and on our FB page: MC Wrestling.
